DJ selection is always a tough one…B&G’s have to collectively decide what type of music they like (talk about tough enough!) but then add into the mix that they have to consider the 150+ other guests as well and their music preference…
As you are constructing your “Do NOT play list” and your “DO play list” keep in mind hiring a professional DJ/Entertainer can cut out a ton of that stress!
Below is a short interview from one of my favorite DJs in the city to help address a few of the questions that might be buzzing in your head as you plan to dance the night away with your future hubby. Check out Rodrigos answers below….
How long have you been doing what you do, and how did you become a Wedding DJ/Entertainer?
“Well, I have been doing this for well over 20 something years. Music has always been a great love of mine. I remember when I was very young, about 11 or so - staying up late to listen to the mixes on the radio and popping in a blank cassette to record them. As I grew older my parents gave me a pair of turntables, I still remember my first gig, which was an 8th grade valentine’s dance (I was also an 8th grader!) The rest is history – I went on to play at almost all the high schools and clubs in Downtown, Chicago and the surrounding suburbs. In 2000, my daughter was born and realized I needed a stable, consistent job. That’s when Windy City Mix, Inc. was born and I became a full time Wedding Director. “
Wedding Entertainer/Disc Jockey sounds so wonderful, but it also seems expensive - are we going to be able to afford this?
“Windy City Mix, Inc. offers two very affordable, “All – Inclusive” Packages. You have to keep in mind that most of our clients are booking our services 12 to 18 months in advance. Just like many other great, professional vendors – we offer payment plans that make your big day less stressful on your pockets!”
Who do you work best with?
“Regarding clients…We work best with open minded couples who trust us to assist in making their big day memorable. Our weddings are customized 110% to what a client wants, however, keep in mind that you’re probably doing this for the first time and probably the last time. We have been doing this over and over for over 20 years. You can definitely trust us!”
Will I lose control of my wedding if I ask you to just keep all my guests up, dancing and having a good time?
“Oh never! That is our specialty. As a matter of fact, we have a big portion of our clients who are very busy with work and school and what not. They ask us to please just keep everyone having a good time and “trust” our skills and experience. We love when this happens because we now have flexibility with music selections to be able to keep everyone on the dance floor!”
If you had an opportunity to work with a celebrity couple to DJ at their wedding, who would it be and why?
“Oh wow! I would say – Will Smith and Jada Pinket! They seem so laid back and tons of fun! I would totally feed off of their energy and can tell that they would be on the dance floor all night! That would be an awesome wedding reception!”
Any wedding that you’ve done that always seem to stick out on your mind?
“All my weddings are special in a way and always seem to pop in my mind but one in particular back in 2010; I did a wedding for a very high end couple. The groom was a member of a very wealthy and powerful family and let me tell you…that was the most beautiful wedding that I have ever done and seen. The ceremony was outside. The bride and groom where both brought to the ceremony in separate helicopters, they had an awesome String Quartet for the ceremony, appetizers were amazing, dinner was never ending…I can’t say enough but yes, that is a wedding that I always will remember – not to mention the $400 tip!
If couples are interested and would like to reach out to you, how can they do that?
“Couples are more than welcomed to visit our website over at www.windycitymix.com or feel free to give us a call at (855) CITY MIX!”

We won! Thank you Brides & Grooms of 2011
